Electric chauffeur-driven scooters ride through town from 1 October.
Amsterdam, 27 September 2012. From 1 October, after five years of preparation, Hopper will be the new way for commuters and Amsterdam citizens to move around the city. On chauffeur-driven electric scooters, for a fixed rate of €2.50 a ride, customers are taken to their final destination. The project is a private-public cooperation with the City of Amsterdam, NS and the Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment and helps solve metropolitan transportation problems.
In its initial phase, the service will operate within the city centre (ring S100), branching out to the Pijp, RAI Station and the Zuidas business district. Hopper will be operational on weekdays from 8.00 to 20.00. Customers can book a Hopper by means of an app, telephone number 0900-8890 or via the website www.myhopper.nl. The scooters that Hopper operates have been converted for transportation purposes, to provide extra comfort and safety. For example, the saddle was extended, steps were mounted on the backside of the scooter and the box on the rear can act as a back support.

A new form of outdoor advertising in Amsterdam.
Advertisers warm to interactive tablets on Hopper individual transport service .
Amsterdam, 27 September 2012. From 1 October, after five years of preparation, Hopper will be the new way for commuters and Amsterdam citizens to move around the city. The service, kicking off with 100 chauffeur-driven electric scooters, is flexible and the solution to metropolitan transportation problems. Hopper’s highly innovative character offers advertisers a sustainable brand association. In addition to the advertising possibilities on interactive tablets, advertisers have the opportunity to offer rides to people and use the scooters for contract transportation.
The ’Hopper Box’ is equipped with four Samsung Galaxy Tablets and mounted on the rear of the scooter, at the same time serving as a high back support for passengers. On the tablets, advertisements can be displayed almost immediately via Wi-Fi. By means of a TomTom track & trace system, advertisers can exactly see where their messages have been displayed.
This ride is offered to you by…
The Hopper service will operate within the city centre, branching out to the Pijp, RAI Station and the Zuidas business district, and will have a fixed rate of €2.50. It offers countless marketing opportunities, like advertisements, action marketing and contract transportation. For example, the advertiser can offer people a ride. In this case, the ride will be ‘offered by…’. This way, the chauffeur of the Hopper can convey a message, flyer or sample, so the passenger will have a story to tell at home or at work.

Particularly the mobile component of this service guarantees your brand will be visible across town.”
Peter-Paul Blommers of Cheil and chairman of Esprix: “Amsterdam will become a bit more Italian with all those hip scooters in town. Very nice. But the nicest thing is that the Amsterdam Hoppers are noiseless and non-polluting.”
